Meet the Destination Africa Team

Tracey, Destiny Hair’s owner is 37 years old and opened the salon over 7 years ago. “I have a three-year-old daughter and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a presentation from Chris Connors. Chris has already been to the Ubombo orphanage with his team and made a big impact on the young orphans. He showed me what these young children have been through at such a young age. I found it very emotional and realised that I was a bit naive when I first thought these children had contracted the HIV virus genetically from their parents. They have in fact all contracted the disease through rape, which I found deeply disturbing, especially as they were all raped between the ages of 3 and 6 years old. I shared this with the salon team and they all found it very emotional too. We all take day to day life and material possessions for granted and the thought of my child going through what these orphans are going through revolts me. So I am prepared to give up two weeks of my time, business, family and responsibilities to help make a difference to other people’s lives. I think it's a bit strange that a hairdresser with no experience in building is going to Africa and help build a community centre, but I am keen to learn and get to know and spend time with the children there. I think this is a big opportunity for us all to make a difference and change lives in the future.”

Steph is Principal Designer at Destiny. She is 21 years old and joined the salon team 6 years ago. “I would like to go to Africa to help people across the world who are less fortunate than us. I think that this journey is a life changing experience and an opportunity too good to pass up.”
