Destination Africa

Destiny Hair Design owner Tracey Gascoin and seven of her salon team are setting out on a life changing experience called Destination Africa. They're joining forces with Coco's Foundation to help extend an orphanage in Ubombo in a very remote part of South Africa. The orphanage currently homes, loves and cares for 19 children. The trip takes place in May 2012 and the team need to raise at least £17,600 for building materials.

Coco's Foundation was set up in 2009 by a hairdressing friend of Tracey's, Chris Connors, who was so moved by the children's plight he became involved in building a trauma centre on the orphanage site.

The trauma centre was an existing building that, with their bare hands Chris and his salon's team renovated and extended over two and a half weeks in May 2010. This building has separate bedrooms, a bathroom and a physio area to ensure every child's needs are met, and is a place they can call home and be part of a happy family. They remain here until the day they can be integrated into the orphanage with the other children.

Continuing the work, Coco's will be building a community centre in 2012 and this is where Tracey and her team will be working.
